Section 3J - Targeted Learning Allocation

This allocation provides funding for school boards to implement focused initiatives aimed at improving student achievement in priority areas. It has five components, which are enveloped collectively on Data Form A2 - Targeted Learning.

1. School Math Facilitators Component

This component is funded at the higher of:

  • the teacher salary benchmark with benefits (item 1.1), or
  • the teacher salary benchmark with benefits x funding benchmark x number of priority schools in the school board (table amount in the funding regulation)

2. Math Lead Component

This component is funded at the lower of a calculated amount and the actual expenses of the Math Lead in the school board.

  • The total calculated amount is the sum of the following:

    • The base amount (at item 2.1) is the supervisory officer benchmark value.
    • For school boards with ADE over 100,000 an additional amount is provided (at item 2.2), which is also equal to the supervisory officer benchmark.
    • The travel and PD amount (at item 2.3) is calculated as 10.44% of the sum of items 2.1 and 2.2.

  • The Math Lead expenses (at items 2.5 to 2.9) and FTE (at item 2.10) are loaded from data entry on the INPUT - LRF - Part 1 tab.

The funded value is the lower of the calculated amount (at item 2.4) and the total expenses (at item 2.9). Note that if there is overspending on the Math Lead then this will be loaded to Data Form A2 - Targeted Learning, item 2.5, and may be covered by available underspending from other components within the Targeted Learning Allocation.

Please note that the expenses for the leads funded under this component should be reported on the coordinators and consultants line on Schedule 10; refer to the Code of Accounts for more details.

3. Digital Math Tools Component

This component is funded through per pupil calculations for students in grades 1 to 3, grades 4 to 8, and secondary.

4. Reading Screening Tools Component

This component is funded through per pupil calculations for students in JK/SK and grades 1 to 3.

5. Reading Intervention Licences and Supports Component

This component is funded as a base amount and a per pupil amount.
